East Barnby Class 9 - Day Two

The children slept (well), even if they claim they didn't. Indeed, they were able to have a bit of a lie in given that breakfast was at 8.30.
We walked to the dining hall in the dry, stoked up with lots of breakfast and returned to the dorms in the rain which, as we head towards the Esk for the canoe expedition, is still gently falling.
We will be practising our paddling skills around Ruswarp prior to our journey to a Whitby harbour which today will be in one long run due to the tides.
Look out for photos.
Everyone on our minibus is ready for the challenge.

We have had an excellent day paddling up and down the Esk in rafted canoes in weather conditions that veered between wet and nearly dry.
Some of the canoes veered from side to side until teamwork and practice resulted in very rapid progress to Whitby.
It was a pleasure to watch children who had been apprehensive overcome nerves and fatigue growing in confidence as they travelled towards their destination.
On the way we encountered varied wildlife, including a curious seal under the old railway bridge, and several trees uprooted in last Friday's storm.
The quote of the journey was from Tommy who said, 'I'm ready for a break but I've just had one so I'll carry on.' Miss Watkin and the rest of his team were grateful.
Everyone is looking forward to a shower and a good meal.

Night time Activities:
Seth did a quick weather check to confirm that he thought another outdoor activity after tea was the right option.
The children dealt brilliantly with the arrival to East Barnby of some new schools and used some of the skills learnt during orienteering to the previous evening to work in teams to find aliens. We will be able to see which class found the most after Class 10's visit.
Afterwards the children visited the tuck shop for souvenirs and reflected on a day of challenges and successes.
Sleep has descended quicker tonight.
