Headteacher’s Welcome

Steve Owen

Steve Owen Executive Headteacher

Welcome to our school website and thank you for taking the time to look around. We hope that it gives you all the relevant information you should require and a flavour of what our amazing school is all about.

As Headteacher, I believe that a school should be a place where dreams are created and fulfilled; a place where respect is championed and where every child is valued for what they can contribute; a place where excellence is celebrated in whatever sphere that might be; a place where children are driven to aspire for more; a place that values ,and promotes motivation, and a place that celebrates success in all its guises.

At Newby and Scalby School, we have a clear vision that: “ We are a school which nurtures children to achieve infinitely more than we might ask, or they might dream; empowering them so they can thrive as confident citizens now and in the future.”

We have a clear set of values under the acronym of Dreams: Dream, Respect, Excellence, Aspiration, Motivation and Success and these provide the cornerstones of the work we do.

We recognise that we have a role to ensure that we nurture and develop all children’s abilities and attributes to enable them to excel and to achieve the success that they might never have known. As such, through the wide and rich opportunities we provide, we give every child the chance to shine and to dream, whether they are a writer, mathematician, scientist, actor, artist, sportsperson, debater, or friend maker.

‘Inspiring Dreams, Creating Belief and Building Success’ embodies what is so special about this school and the relationships between pupils and adults is strong because we believe that growing up is about finding out and figuring out what is out there and how to fit in with the world, before you can make a move; the move that makes you stand out and that leaves your mark forever.

We recognise that children have many roads to be travelled and many hours spent in preparation to perfect their skills and shape their minds.  All the experiences, the opportunities for exploration, self-expression, engagement with others that we share with children in school are designed to help them to get to know themselves and embrace who they are so that they can choose how to excel and to stand out.

As a school we want the very best for all of our children, whatever that might be.

Newby and Scalby Primary is proud to be part of the Coast and Vale Learning Trust alongside several other schools in the local area. To find out more about the Coast and Vale Trust please visit their website.

Best wishes,
Steve Owen
